In practice though you will not get the plugins to sound like an actual desk of the same brand. You could use VCC for the drive, or just drive the input of the channel strips. With regards to whether or not VCC+Waves would be too much: Just like with a real desk you can drive the input giving each track the amount of 'character' you want. So theoretically having them on each channel would sort of emulate a desk of the same brand, although you'd need something for the master bus to emulate the whole process (you could technically use VCC for that). Same with VCC Neve and Waves Scheps73 after it, would it be too much?I am pretty sure that both the E-channel and the Scheps have some sort of input/output emulation. Would using VCC in Echannel mode with Waves E-channel after it be too much if I'd wanted to mimic mixing through an ssl? For the material I'm working on, the aggressiveness of E channel EQ fits better for me.īought SSL E-channel (Waves) for 29 dollar.ĭoes the Waves E-channel also have a sound of it's own when bypassed: in other words: if I'd put the E channel on all my drum tracks without eq/comp, would it emulate going through a SSL console? Ultimately its about your sound and will it work with you. I find that those guys work extremely well with each other in creating that "Large Format Desk" sound. Working with both of those plugs, i can easily mix a song (minus a few comps for parallel compression and of course effects). It can be a bit of a learning curve and I give credit to C1 and Brainworx for making it easier for the user in that regard.įor me, i'll take the Waves SSL E Channel and pair it with CLA Mixdown. The downside is if you're new to audio production, the Waves SSL has a TON of buttons with different routing between the channelstrip (just like the real desk). Waves is reliable and still holds true a decade later.
Both Console 1 and Brainworx sound great but i have issues with both of them with my workflow. I have both the G and the E, and i NEVER reach for the G.īeside using the actual desk, I've used about all of the SSL Emulations (Slate, Console 1, Waves, Brainworx, SSL's own plugs) and to be fair, the waves still gets the most work.
Agree with the others, it tends to get a bit harsh on the high end. Not a big fan of the the G Strip EQ by Waves.
